Realtor.com projects the Phoenix area to be the strongest housing market in the U.S. in 2017. That includes neighboring Scottsdale and Mesa as well.

With sales growth at 7.2 percent and price gains of 5.9 percent, Phoenix ranks first, Los Angeles second, Boston third, followed by Sacramento and Riverside rounding out the top five. Western cities also dominate the list of the top 10. A total of 100 markets were analyzed across the nation.

The national forecast for home prices indicates a 3.9 percent gain, which is slower than the past couple of years. But the Phoenix area skyrocketed well beyond those figures.
